The meeting

"Hi I'm Preston Mahoney you must be Lucy" he smiled shook her hand and joined the table.
"Thank you for seeing me at such short notice Mr Mahoney"
"To be honest miss Hudson your case has me completely intrigued, it's not everyday a long lost relative turns up to claim an estate, especially in this town." Preston could sense Lucy's discomfort at his interest in her he couldn't help it, he just had an excitable nature and was interested in people. He tried to rein himself in and put on a professional front.

" I'm afraid i never met your grandmother but my wife Ariana remembers her well" he continued.
" I'm sure your aware that your grandmother passed away in the hurricane that destroyed the town many years ago, but i don't think you realise just how much damage the estate sustained"
" I used to visit here for holidays and remember the town before" said Lucy.
Preston nodded "It's all very sad the town although empty has at least been cleaned up, with no contactable heir the estate has been left pretty much how it was after" his voice trialled off.
"So i take it the house will need some work then" Lucy sighed.
" If you would like i can take you up there now?"
Lucy nodded in agreement.

As they neared the house Lucy could see just how bad it was but there was no going back. As much as she didn't want to live here there was no where else to go.

The call

When she woke Lucy was amazed it was almost lunch time, unsure of her next move she timidly came out of her resting place. Luckily the beach was still deserted, she slowly made her way up the winding path towards the town. Lucy spotted some clothing drying on a nearby washing line. She quickly grabbed a cardigan and found a hat and sunglasses on a garden table, she put on her disguise as she approached town.

The town was so quiet Lucy could hardly believe it was the same place she had visited years ago. She could still remember how upset she had been after hearing that a hurricane had torn through the town, but she hadn't anticipated the devastation had been so vast. Few of the old building still stood and even after many years no new ones had been built. The old library was still standing and Lucy went there now, again it was deserted but this was exactly want Lucy wanted right now. After freshening up in the bathroom she used the library computer to find the phone number and made the call.

A meeting was set up that evening in the gym cafe Lucy couldn't remember if this building had always been here or not, the town was so different now but so was she. With some time to kill Lucy took a stroll around town she could barely remember what used to be where, but was amazed at the completely different atmosphere. The town felt so sleepy and still, the vibrant hustle and bustle she remembered so clearly was a distant memory.Lucy's stomach was rumbling violently now, it wouldn't hurt to get the gym early and get something to eat while she waited for him. She just hoped he had some good news for her.

Prologue

It's cold and dark but the girl still runs, on and on into the night. The still of the night calms her nerves, when she pauses to catch her breath she hears a rustle of the leaves and the nightlife scratching around, shes still not safe and her destination is still far away. Fear drives her on her body's tired her legs are aching will she get to her destination by morning.

As the dawn chorus begins the girls nears her destination she can see the beach that marks the beginning of Sunset Valley, her spirits begin to lift as the chirping grows louder nothing in the world could sound better to Lucy she has arrived she is free.

Fatigue begins to set in and Lucy can hardly stay awake, she needs a safe place to get some sleep before she continues on her journey. The beach is deserted at this hour but she wants to remain out of sight for the time being anyway, just to be sure. She eventually finds a small rock cave that she can use and falls into a deep sleep.
